Sean Rentauskas Obituary, Death; The Coal City, Illinois community is mourning the tragic loss of Sean Michael Rentauskas, 21, who died following a devastating single-vehicle crash that left his car submerged in a creek late Saturday night in Morris.

According to the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, emergency crews were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. to Ottawa Bend Drive at the West Branch of Nettle Creek, near Gebhard Woods State Park, after reports of a vehicle in the water. Upon arrival, responders discovered a car fully submerged and overturned in the creek.

Preliminary findings indicate that Sean Michael Rentauskas was traveling east on Old Stage Road when he approached a curve near the park entrance. For reasons still under investigation, he failed to navigate the turn, left the roadway, and entered Nettle Creek, where the vehicle overturned and came to rest upside down.

Rescue swimmers worked quickly to remove him from the submerged vehicle before he was transported to Morris Hospital for emergency treatment. Despite life-saving efforts, he was later pronounced dead in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The sudden and heartbreaking loss of Sean Michael Rentauskas has left family, friends, and the wider Coal City community in deep mourning. Loved ones are remembering him with love, holding onto memories as they try to process the tragic loss.
