The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that Zach Bowman, 38, of Yulee, was hit by a vehicle at approximately 8:00 p.m. on January 2026. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and provided treatment, but Bowman succumbed to his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation by FHP. No additional details about the circumstances or potential charges have been released at this time.
News of Bowman’s death spread quickly through the community, where he was remembered as a warm and generous neighbor. Friends described him as a fixture of local life, known for his friendly demeanor and for making others feel seen and appreciated.
“Zach was the kind of person who exemplified the inviting atmosphere Yulee is known for,” said long-time neighbor, Maria Chen. “Whether it was a wave from his yard or helping someone carry groceries, he had a way of making a real connection. This is just a devastating loss.”
The tragedy has also sparked renewed conversations among residents about pedestrian safety, particularly on roads after dark. Community forums on social media have seen an increase in discussions about street lighting and crosswalk visibility in the area.
In their grief, the community has mobilized to support Bowman’s family. A meal train has been organized, and numerous residents have shared memories and condolences online.
The Bowman family has requested privacy as they navigate this sudden loss. They have indicated that information regarding memorial services will be shared at a later time.
As the investigation continues, the community is left to mourn a man whose presence, friends say, genuinely enriched their small town. “His life, though tragically shortened, reached many lives,” Chen added. “We’ll hold onto that.”
