
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The University of Southern California’s medical community is mourning the recent passing of Dr. Thuong Tran, DNAP, CRNA, a promising 2025 graduate of the USC Keck School of Medicine Nurse Anesthesia Program who was honored with a prestigious clinical award.
An Award-Winning Graduate and Mentor
Dr. Tran was a distinguished graduate of the USC program, where he was awarded the USC Agatha Hodgins Award for Clinical Achievement and Scholarship. This honor recognizes excellence and dedication in the field of nurse anesthesia.
Beyond his own academic success, Tran was a dedicated mentor. As recently as April 2025, he volunteered his time to mentor aspiring nurse anesthetists at the Diversity CRNA event at Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia, an event he first attended as an ICU nurse in 2021 when exploring his own career path.
A Loss for the Trojan Community
His passing represents a significant loss for the Trojan community at the USC Nurse Anesthesia Program, where he had just begun what promised to be an impactful career.
The university community expressed its deepest condolences to Dr. Tran’s family and friends, reflecting on the promising future cut short.
