The communities of Whiterock and Westrock are mourning the loss of a beloved musician and neighbor, Daniel “Danny” McGuinness, whose passing was announced by the Whiterock Westrock Historical & Cultural Society.
McGuinness, described as a “true local legend” and a “cornerstone of our community,” was a gifted UK-based singer-songwriter who made his home in the area. Originally from London and Kent, he became a cherished fixture through his soulful music and his warm, engaging presence.
“His music, a soulful blend of folk, rock, and pop, resonated deeply because of his thoughtful, poignant lyrics,” the society’s statement read. “He had the rare ability to capture life’s complexities in a melody.” Danny was a regular performer at local venues and events, weaving his artistry into the fabric of the community’s cultural life.
Beyond the stage, he was a familiar and friendly face, particularly connected to the Westrock Bungalows area. His involvement in local gatherings made him more than a musician; he was, as the society noted, “a great friend and neighbour.”
“His passing leaves a quiet space where his music and warmth once filled the air,” the tribute concluded.
News of his death has prompted an outpouring of memories and condolences on social media, with residents sharing stories of his performances, his kindness, and the personal connection he fostered through his songs.
The Whiterock Westrock Historical & Cultural Society extended its heartfelt thoughts and prayers to the entire McGuinness family. At this time, no public memorial service details have been announced. The society has encouraged those who knew him to celebrate his life by remembering the joy and reflection his music brought to the community.
